In February of 2019, Nintendo announced they were remaking “The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening” for the Nintendo Switch. I can’t tell you how excited I got. Link’s Awakening has always been one of my favorite Zelda games. It has such a unique story, unlike any other in the Zelda franchise. Back in the early days of Gaming Historian, I almost made a video about the history of Zelda. But my anxiety kicked in and I abandoned the project. I just felt like I couldn’t do it justice. Making a Link’s Awakening episode made me nervous, but I felt like it would be a good way to ease myself into making a full-blown Zelda retrospective. I think it turned out really well, although writing the episode was difficult. Sometimes it’s hard to put into words why a game is special.
