This weeks submission comes from Dakota Gorman. He states in the e-mail “must be made of pure gold!” You would think right?

TENGEN AC Adaptor for the Nintendo NES. Grade 85 VGA, Super RARE!

This auction is for a very rare Tengen AC Adaptor for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). This NES power adaptor is one of a kind accesory, one of the rarest if not the rarest sealed accesories for the NES. Impossible to find used, let alone to find it graded and sealed!!! Graded 85 NM+ which is near mint!! For the true NES collectors out there!!! AWESOME!!!!!

This could be the most ridiculous eBay auction I have ever seen. Never mind that a sealed copy was sold 3 years ago for $125. This person wants $50,000 FOR A POWER ADAPTOR.

For those who are unfamiliar, Tengen was a video game publishing company owned by Atari Games. They ported a lot of arcade titles onto the NES, including Tetris and Ms. Pac-Man. In 1992, they decided to get into the accessory business, as seen in this newspaper article. This power adaptor originally sold for $16.98.

I don’t have an issue with rare items…but it’s a power adaptor. IT POWERS ON THE NES. That is literally all it does. You can find plenty of official Nintendo power adaptors for much cheaper…and it does exactly the same thing.

These offers just embarrass themselves, it’s adorable! I mean, 50 grand? Yeah right. I can sell you mine at a discount of $10,000, haha.

    Another good submission, Norman :)

Thanks! Imagine what you could do with $50,000. Then think about owning this AC Adaptor. It is tempting.

Excellent pick this week. This is a great example of how VGA grading is absolutely ridiculous.

I agree 100%. I had some good discussions about VGA grading at the Classic Gaming Expo.

I saw an NES control deck on amazon the other day, acceptable condition, no box, cables, or controllers, the seller wanted 30,000 dollars. Why? It was NES 001. The very first NES is accounted for and is in a private collection. What the seller was looking at was the model number. The control deck is model 001, the controller is 002, and the NES top loader is 101. The serial number is a long string of numbers. I just laughed and felt a little bad for the guy.
