i don’t think that sony was being too insulting about the password thing. some people probably just used the same one they had before the first attack and they wanted people to change their password. what they said was basically the same thing that every other place says about passwords.
yes!! the online multiplayer pass is crap!!! my friend told me he rented battlefield 3 to try it out and wasnt able to play online, so he returned it immediately and won’t even consider purchasing the game. he’s a call of duty fan and thought he’d try out battlefield, now they have lost a customer. rentals and used are very important for the video game industry. many people rent to try out games to determine if its good or not. they also rent games they don’t consider worth it to buy, but still want to play. do game companies lose money on this? not really. think about all those stores that purchase multiple copies of these games and the fact that some people wouldnt even play it if they arent interested, but will rent it if mildly interested. as for used games, some people cant afford used games and so they sell other games in order to purchase a used (or even new) copy of a game. sure no royalties, but the game was purchased originally and sometimes the money received for selling games goes into getting another game. and i agree that its crap that companies are now starting to charge for stuff that should be free. i think the gaming industry now has too much corporate greed in it. i dont mind them making profits, but gouging is now too common because of the corporations. okay, now i’m getting off topic. sorry for the long post, and man only 10 minutes in. good podcast!!

hahaha apple pippen. i hate to say it but i dont think apple will change gaming that much, especially with steve jobs gone. sure, there’s some neat games you can play on iphone and ipad, but those are mostly casual games. casual games have been popular for some time (minesweeper, solitaire, various card games, etc). the thing it did (i think along with facebook) is market casual games to a broader audience looking for a little downtime (also face book, one can only wait so long for an update). as for jobs no longer being here, he was a great innovator. apple did horrible without him, and when he came back he transformed that company. the reason = corporate greed. corporations only try to make money, ie cheap quality, gimmicks, rushed launches, anything to make money. jobs on the other hand, while making money (lots of it), also cared about what he puts out. in other words, quality, care, attention to detail, anything to put out a great product, which people will go and buy (even pay more money to get). i’m not saying that apple is destined to fail, but hopefully the new guy carries on in the right tradition. you also see this trend in gaming companies as well.

personally, i’m not a big fan of motion control, 3d, kinect, etc. but i think that it can be something used to improve games. however, it needs to be implemented right. for sports games like tennis, it can be excellent. (another excellent control motion use is grenades on uncharted) but for most games it doesnt work too well. what i really want to see is advanced holograms (3d best!!) that are capable of interaction (the technology exists, but still needs lots of research!! go!!!). touch screens are great for hand helds (iphone ipad counts). i’m not sure about consoles. as for 3d, in movies it can be neat if done right, but most tack it on to try and grab more money. there are some movies where i remove my glasses and its perfectly fine (no 3d!!) then one or two scenes its 3d and now i need the glasses. i dont think i’ll watch another 3d movie. as for games, agreed it adds nothing to the experience. conclusion, most of these technology end up gimmicky, but sometimes it can be great. perhaps i should have said rarely. sorry for another long post.

i dont think xbox is selling so well because it has better software because most of the games you listed is also on ps3. i think all the xbox owners have to buy another cause their console breaks down. i’m not saying this as some fanboy, but from conversations from xbox owners who have told me they are buying the elite. (some cause they want the upgrade in storage or look, and others cause their xbox is dying or breaking down.) as for games being better on xbox, i think thats not true for all games. i’ve heard from reviews that some are better on ps3. i dont know the numbers on how many are better on which system, so its certainly possible that xbox has more games that are better on it vs games better on ps3. i do think that part of its success in north america is due to it being considered to popular console. i think the ps3 is more popular in both japan and europe, but the xbox is popular in north america. yes, popularity does matter. one of my friends who owns an xbox says the reason he bought one was because all his friends owned one and he wanted to play with them (and halo). as i said, xbox is popular in north america. the ps3 isnt as popular because it came out a year later and was priced too high initially. the only reason it is closing the gap is because it lowered its price and now has a good selection of games. i also think that the kinect did help xobx reach a new audience. afterall, the move is similar to the wii, but the kinect is different enough for parents to buy for their kids, especially young boys reaching their teen years. xbox live is another factor. there is plenty of info on it being superior to psn (of course, you pay money for it). people like to keep in touch and the superior service received by live makes it more attractive to buyers. xbox was also heavily advertised and developed with young guys in mind. the controls fit well for guys and the game library is filled with guy games. all of these and i’m sure more are factors for continued sales of xbox 360.

If u haven’t played Uncharted 3 or Killzone 3 in 3D I don’t think you have really played  a good 3D game. They are amazing. It sounds like you guys don’t have PS3′s so with Sony pushing 3D the hardest your views are pretty uninformed. But yeah hate the glasses but I can deal with it. 3D is the best of the new technologies to me.
